Below we have listed the most frequently asked questions regarding betting with the Tote in order for you to maximise the most from your Tote Account.

I wish to open a thetote.com account, how do I register?
It only takes a matter of minutes to open a Tote Account. Simply click on the Register button in the Title Bar at the top of the home page. Please note you must be at least 18 years of age to open a Tote Account.

Page1 - Personal Information:
This page requires you to fill in your personal details. You must fill in all the boxes to proceed to the next page. If you fail to complete a mandatory field you will receive a notice informing you of this. Once all your details are entered click the Next button. Please note the required field "Mother's Maiden Name" is a security question. Also an email will be sent to you confirming your account number and pin number, so please ensure that you provide the correct email address.

Page 2 - Terms and Conditions & Marketing:
The next page you will encounter is the Terms and Conditions page. Once you have read the terms and conditions and are satisfied please check the box.

By selecting to receive Tote marketing and news you will be able to avail of our ticket promotions, festival tips and more. To proceed to the final stage of registration click the Next button.

Page 3 - Funds:
Finally you will be brought to the funds page. Here you will be asked to deposit money into your Tote Account so you can commence betting. You can either add a Credit Card, Laser Card or Mastercard. The option is there for you to add more than one card. (Please note that thetote.com is a secure site.). Please refer to your email account as an email shall be sent to the email address that you provided in stage one confirming your account number also followed by a separate email confirming your PIN number.

What happens if I forget my Account number or Pin Number?
If you have forgotten your account number please call 1850 238 669 or send an email to info@tote.ie. A member of our team will confirm various details with you and then provide you with your Tote Account number.

If you have forgotten your pin number please click on the Forgot Pin button. You will then be prompted to provide your email address and your account number. An email shall be sent to you confirming your pin number.

How do I change my Pin Number?
If you wish to change your pin number please contact our call centre in writing either by post or email info@tote.ie. Once this is received your new pin number shall be changed by close of business.

When I try to enter my existing account number and PIN, I am told I have an Invalid Pin/Account number combination?

  1. If you have a Tote Account which previously was only used on course and you wish to commence betting online, you will need to activate this account before you can bet online. On entering your account number and PIN number you will be asked to provide us with an email address and tick the Terms and Conditions box. Press the Activate button and you shall be brought to the betting screen where you can now bet online with the Tote.
    Note: Once you have activated your account online, you will no longer receive a statement in the post as you can view it online by clicking the Statement button in the My Account panel on the left.
  2. Your account must have a balance greater than €0.00 to register online. If your balance is currently at €0.00 or below €0.00, please credit your account by ringing 1850 238 669 if you are using a debit/credit card. The minimum lodgement is €5.
  3. If you have a 0 at the start of your PIN, try dropping it i.e. instead of 0123, enter 123.
  4. If you are still experiencing difficulties logging on or your account has been locked due to too many incorrect entries, call 1850 238 669.

Why can't I log in?
If you are unable to log in to thetote.com it may be due to a few simple reasons:

  1. You may be entering in the wrong account number/PIN number combination. If you have forgotten either your account number or PIN number please call 1850 238 669 where our call centre will be glad to assist you.
  2. You may have locked your account by entering the wrong account number/PIN number combination too many times. Please contact our call centre on 1850 238 669 where they shall ask you a security question and unlock your account for you.

I have a new e-mail address, moved house, how do I update my Tote Account?
If you wish to amend any of your account details you can do so by emailing info@tote.ie or alternatively you can send a letter to Tote Ireland, Ballymany, The Curragh, Co Kildare. Please state your name, Tote Account number and old address.

Is thetote.com a secure site?
Thetote.com recognises that online security is an area of vital importance for all out clients. Thetote.com uses a 128 bit SSL (Secure Socket Layer) encryption, which is certified by Digicert. This means that all personal and financial information sent to and from our site is encrypted to the highest industry standard.

Can I cancel a bet?
Once you have selected the Place Wager button your bet has gone on and you are unable to cancel your bet with The Tote.

When I click on the Place Wager button I am told I have insufficient funds, which is not the case?
This is due to your browser storing old balances. To rectify this problem using Internet Explorer please follow the below steps:

  • For Internet Explorer users: click on Tools tab at the top of your screen > Internet Options > Browsing History > Delete All
  • For Mozilla Firefox users: click on Tools tab at the top of your screen > Clear Private Data > Select Cookies > Clear Private Data Now.

Can I access details regarding my betting history?
Yes, to check your betting history click on the Statement button in the My Account panel. This will show your most recent bet first. It will also show your current balance.

You can also do the following:

    • You can select to view the transactions based by month and year.
    • Simply select the drop down menu and filter by month and year
    • If you wish to view transactions by a particular date hit the Adv Search button
    • Select the date range you wish to view
    • At this stage you may also filter by transaction type
    • Click the Submit button and your statement is created
    • You can create a new statement at any stage by clicking on the refine search button.
  1. If you wish to keep a copy of any of these transactions you may do so by converting the page to a PDF. Simply click on the View as PDF button. Once your PDF is created you can right click and press print or alternatively press the save button and save the transaction.

Please note Tote Account send out a monthly statement via post to all account holders who did not activate their account online and who wager more than €100 during the calendar month. However, should you have any queries regarding a bet you may request a statement to be sent to you at any time by calling 1850 238 669.

How do I deposit money into my Tote Account via payment cards?

To deposit money into your account please follow these steps:

  1. In the My Account panel click on the Deposit button.
  2. Enter the amount you wish to transfer off your card into your Tote account.
  3. As you can register more than one card, please select the card you wish to transfer funds from then:
    • Enter the card number
    • Enter the Expiry date e.g. 0310 represents March 2010
    • Enter the CCV number (this is the 3 digit number found on the back of your card)
    • Select the type of card
  4. Finally click the Deposit Now button at the bottom of the screen. Please be patient and only click this button once.
  5. Once the deposit is successful a screen shot will appear advising you of this. From here you can press the Bet Now button and commence betting.

Why can I not register my card?
There may be a few reasons why you are unable to register your card:

  1. The Tote does not accept your card. See above for the cards the Tote accepts. Please note that currently we are unable to accept UK Laser Cards.
  2. The card type you selected in the drop down menu does not match your card.
  3. You have entered in an invalid card number.
  4. In some cases your bank may be automatically blocking your card from registering with a betting company for security reasons. Simply ring your bank and verify that you wish to make such a transaction.
  5. The Tote is unable to accept cards from U.S banks due to legal reasons.

NOTE: The Tote will accept no liability for any credit card charges which you may incur from your credit card provider.

Can I change the payment card I have registered?
You can change the payment card you have registered to your account at any stage. However, to protect your account you will be asked security questions. Once your new card has been entered your old card will be removed and no longer exist under your account.

To change the payment card please call 1850 238 669 and provide them with your new card details.

How do I deposit money into my Tote Account via cheque/cash?
Please note if you wish to lodge money via cheque/cash there are two methods of doing so:

  • Cheque/Postal Order
    Post a cheque - including your Tote Account number and phone number to:
    Tote Account
    Ballymany
    The Curragh
    Co. Kildare
    Please allow five working days for processing payment to your account.

    If you are at the races you may also give your cheque to Tote Account staff on course. Tote Account areas are located on all the racecourses. The cheque shall be brought back to Head Office where it shall be processed. Again please allow five working days for processing your cheque.
  • Cash
    Post cash - including your Tote Account number and phone number to:
    Tote Account
    Ballymany
    The Curragh
    Co Kildare

    Whilst we do not recommend posting cash to us, if you wish to do so please ensure that you register the envelope.

    You may also lodge cash into your Tote Account at any race meeting. Simply provide your account number and the amount you wish to deposit to any Tote cashier and they will lodge the cash to your account. Your account will be credited immediately.

How do I Withdraw Money?
To withdraw money from your account please follow these steps:

  1. In the My Account Panel click on Withdrawal button
  2. Enter the amount you wish to Withdraw
  3. The amount you enter will be transferred to either
    • The payment card you have registered.
    • If you have not registered a payment card a cheque shall be automatically issued to you. However, should you wish to withdraw to a payment card you may at this point call 1850 238 669 and they shall set up a card on your request.
    • Once the withdrawal is successful a screen shot will appear advising you of this. From here you can press the Bet Now button and continue betting.

If you are a regular racegoer you may also use your Tote Account card to withdraw money on course. Simply swipe your card at any of the Touch Tote Machines, select the Withdrawal button and input the amount you wish to withdraw. A voucher shall be printed and you may take this voucher to any of the Tote operators who will exchange this voucher for cash. Please be aware that this voucher is treated as cash and it is your responsibility to ensure it is not lost/stolen on course.

Why does a withdrawal back to my card take 2 to 5 days whilst deposits are taken immediately?
The Tote processes your withdrawal request immediately however, your bank can take 2 to 5 working days to credit the funds onto your card. This is standard practice for most banks.

NOTE: Due to bank regulations the following withdrawal restrictions apply:

  • Visa users: Requests for more than €500 may be split into several transactions.
  • If we are unable to return funds back to your card, it will not appear as a valid option.

How can I contact the Tote?
You can contact the Tote at any time by clicking on the Contact Us link at the footer of our website. In the description box type in your query click on the Send Message button. A member of the Tote will contact you as soon as possible with an answer.
